Split a PDF

Drop a PDF here, or choose one from your device. Everything runs in this tab — the file never leaves your device.

  • Split by page, by file size, or down the middle
  • See exactly which files you will get before you split
  • Nothing is uploaded, and no account is needed

Split a PDF three ways, all inside the tab you already have open: by pages, by file size, or straight down the middle of every page. Say where the cuts go with split points, typed page ranges, a page selection or a fixed length, then read the plan — it names every file and the pages it holds — before anything is written.

    Nothing leaves your device

The whole split happens in the browser tab you already have open. Your PDF is never uploaded, no server ever sees a single page of it, and no account is required.

Four ways to describe the split

Tap the scissors on a page to start a new file after it, type ranges like 1-5, 6-10, tap pages to pick a set, or cut the document into files of a fixed length. In typed ranges a plus joins pages into one file, as in 1-3+7, and 5-end and -4 are shorthands.

    A ceiling per file

Set a maximum size for each output — 1, 2, 5, 10 or 25 MB — and the pages are grouped to fit under it. The figures shown beforehand are estimates; the ceiling is enforced on the real bytes while each file is saved, so a group that comes out over it is split further. A page larger than the ceiling on its own becomes its own file and is flagged.

    Cut every page in half

Cut each page down the middle or across it, and move the cut off centre when a book scan's spine does not sit dead centre. Take the result as one PDF with the sections interleaved in reading order, or as two PDFs — every first section in one, every second in the other. A page selection is honoured.

Separate PDFs or one combined file

Page ranges can be saved as one PDF each, or merged into a single document whose pages you reorder by dragging. When the result holds several files, each one has its own download and Download all packs the set into a ZIP.

    How to split a PDF

    1. Open your PDF

Drag the file in, or pick it from your device. It is read in this tab and the pages appear as thumbnails; nothing is uploaded.

    2. Choose how to split

Pick a method with the tabs: by pages, by size, or in half. By pages then offers split points, typed page ranges, tapping pages to pick a set, or a fixed number of pages per file.

    3. Set the split and read the plan

Mark the cuts, type the ranges, or set the size limit. The plan states how many PDFs will be created and which pages each one holds, and calls out overlaps, pages left out and empty parts — before anything runs.

    4. Save the files

Run the split and every file is listed with a thumbnail, its page range, its page count and its real size. Download them one at a time, or take the whole set as a ZIP. Edit split takes you back with your configuration intact.

    Split PDF FAQs

How many files can I split a PDF into?

Up to one file per page. Put a split point after every page, type as many ranges as you need, or set the length to one page. What limits you is not the number of pieces but the memory your device has for the file.

How do I download all the pieces at once?

Every file in the result has its own download button, and Download all packs the whole set into a single ZIP named after the original file. Unzip it and each piece is its own PDF.

Can I put pages that are not next to each other in the same file?

Yes. Join them with a plus when you type — 1-3+7 puts pages 1, 2, 3 and 7 in one file — or use pick pages, tap the ones you want and make a file from the selection. Pages you leave out of every file are called out in the plan before you run the split.

Can I get one PDF instead of several?

Yes. Under by pages, switch on Combine everything into one PDF and every page you chose lands in a single document, which you can reorder by dragging before you save. Left off, each range becomes its own PDF.

Does splitting a PDF reduce the quality of the pages?

No. Splitting by pages or by size copies each page into the new document exactly as it is, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. Nothing is re-rendered or compressed again, and no watermark is added. Cutting in half changes the visible page box — that is what the mode does — but leaves the content itself untouched.

How do I turn a PDF into one file per page?

Choose by pages, then every N pages, and take the every page preset — N of one. Every cut is filled in at once, so a 40-page document comes back as 40 single-page PDFs, and Download all hands you the set as one ZIP.

Can I split a PDF so every file stays under a size limit?

Yes. Choose by size and set a ceiling — 1, 2, 5, 10 or 25 MB, or a figure of your own — and the pages are grouped to fit under it. The sizes you see beforehand are estimates: the ceiling is enforced on the real bytes as each file is saved, so a group that comes out over it is split further. A page larger than the ceiling on its own becomes its own file and is flagged as over the limit.

What happens to the other half when I cut pages in half?

It is cropped away, not deleted. The section you no longer see sits outside the visible page box, so text-extraction tools may still find it — do not use this mode to hide confidential content. You choose how it comes back: one PDF with the sections interleaved in reading order, or two PDFs holding the first and second sections separately.

Can I move the cut off the centre of the page?

Yes. The cut position runs from 10% to 90% of the page and the preview shows the line and both sections as you move it, so you can line the cut up with a book spine that does not sit dead centre. The same number is used for every page you cut, and the generated PDFs match the preview exactly.

Can I pull out just one page?

Yes — use pick pages, tap that page and make a file from the selection, or type it as a range on its own. Pages you do not put in a file are left out, so you end up with a single PDF. For one page, the extract pages tool is quicker still. Extract PDF Pages

Is it safe to split a confidential PDF here?

The file is read and rewritten inside your browser, it never leaves your device, and no account is required. The site itself does load usage analytics, but the contents of your document are not part of that.
