Page 1 preview

Page numbers make a long document far easier to cite, print and check, and this tool stamps them straight onto the pages. Pick a position, a starting number and any text around the digits, then export. The count runs through the pages you select, in order. The work happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

Numbering stays local

Your PDF is read and rewritten inside the browser tab. There is no upload step and no server copy, so a signed contract or a payslip stays on your own machine.

Three placement options

Numbers can sit bottom center, bottom right or top right, which covers the usual footer and header conventions. Left-hand and top-center placements are not offered.

Prefix and suffix text

Type your own text either side of the digit, such as Page 4 or 4 of 12. The label is drawn in Helvetica at the size you choose, from 8 points up; the rest of the page is left as it was.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Drop the file onto the upload area or pick it from your device. It is parsed on the spot, so nothing is queued up for a server.

  2. Set position and format

Choose bottom center, bottom right or top right, then set Start at, the font size and any prefix or suffix. Select the pages to number — the count follows that selection, not the page positions.

  3. Export the numbered file

Change a setting and the numbering is applied again for you. Check the result preview, then export the PDF — the download carries no watermark.

Page numbering FAQs

Where can the page number be placed?

Three positions are available: bottom center, bottom right and top right. Bottom left, top left and top center are not offered, and there is no margin setting, so the number sits at a fixed inset from the edge.

Can I start numbering at something other than 1?

Yes. Put any whole number from 1 upward in Start at, and the first numbered page takes that value and counts up from there. It helps when a cover sheet or an earlier volume already used the lower numbers.

Why don't the numbers match the real pages?

The count runs through the pages you selected, in order, not their position in the document. Select pages 3, 7 and 9 with Start at 1 and they become 1, 2 and 3. Select every page if the printed number has to match the real one.

How do I get Page 1 of 10 instead of just 1?

Put Page in the Prefix field and of 10 in the Suffix field. Both are plain text repeated on every numbered page, so the total is not worked out for you — type the figure you want.

Can I change the font or the colour of the numbers?

The size is yours to set, from 8 points up, with 11 as the default. The typeface is fixed to Helvetica and there is no colour control, so the numbers read the same on every page. Nothing else on the page is restyled.

Should I number before or after merging PDFs?

Number afterwards. Combine the documents first and number the finished file, so the sequence runs straight through. Numbering each part on its own restarts the count in every piece. Merge PDF

Is my file uploaded to add the page numbers?

No. Your browser opens the PDF, draws the numbers and saves a new copy, and nothing is sent to a server — the app has no upload route at all. No account is needed, and file size is limited only by your device's memory.
