Annotate a PDF

Drop a PDF here, or choose one from your device. Highlight, underline, strike through, add notes, and draw by hand — everything runs in this browser tab.

  • Highlights snap to the text
  • Undo, redo, and edit any mark
  • Your file stays on your device

The annotation editor puts highlighter, underline, strikethrough, text notes, freehand ink and shapes on one canvas. Text marks snap to the real text layer, so a highlighted sentence sits where it should. Marks are drawn into the page itself rather than saved as PDF comments. It all runs in the browser tab, and the file never leaves your device.

Nothing leaves your device

The browser tab opens and rewrites the PDF itself. There is no upload, no processing queue and no server copy you would have to ask someone to delete later.

Eleven tools in one bar

Select, highlight, underline, strike, note, draw, rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow, eraser — with swatches or a custom colour, and the fill, opacity, thickness or text size a tool uses.

Highlights snap to text

Drag across a sentence and the mark aligns to the real text layer. If a page has no text layer, the editor says so and the mark follows your drag instead.

How to annotate a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Drop the file onto the editor or pick it from your device. It renders straight away, with a page rail, zoom and full screen, and no account to create.

  2. Mark up the page

Pick a tool, set colour and thickness, then drag on the page. Undo, redo, duplicate, reorder and erase are all there, plus apply a mark to every page.

  3. Save the marked file

Export when the markup is done, with no watermark. The marks go into the page content, not into PDF comment objects, so every reader sees the same thing.

Annotate PDF FAQs

Can I edit or remove my annotations later?

While the file is open in the editor, yes: undo, redo, delete, duplicate and clear all are all there. After export the marks are part of the page content, not PDF annotation objects, so they never show up in another reader's comment list and cannot be edited there. Keep the original.

Why doesn't my highlight snap to the text?

Highlight, underline and strike look for a real text layer. Scanned or image-only pages have none, so the editor tells you and draws the mark along your drag instead. It lands where you dragged, just not letter-perfect. Extract PDF Text

Can notes use Japanese, Arabic or Cyrillic?

Note text is written with the standard Helvetica font, which only covers Latin characters. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Cyrillic will not render as you typed them, so use a drawn mark for those documents.

Is there an undo for annotations?

Yes. Undo and redo cover every mark you place while the file is open, and a selected shape can be deleted, duplicated, brought to front or sent to back. Clear all empties the markup in one step.

Can I put the same mark on every page?

Apply to all pages copies the selected mark to the whole document at the same position, which suits a stamp, a review box or a signature line. Place it once, check one page, then apply it.

Can I sign a PDF with the drawing tool?

You can draw your signature with the freehand ink tool and it stays exactly where you put it. It is a visual mark, not a certificate-based digital signature, so treat it the way you would a pen signature on a scan. Fill and Sign PDF

Where does my file go when I annotate it?

Nowhere. Reading, drawing and export all happen in this tab, so the document stays on your machine and no file size limit applies. The site itself does load analytics scripts, as most sites do.
